Now, September 2026
I'm James, a software engineer who makes tools without the ads and sign-up walls. Here's what I'm working on right now, and a place to send me an idea for the next one.
What I'm up to
Everything here is free to use. Most of it runs on a server I manage myself.

Live electricity prices for 33 states, now in beta. A website, a free public price API, and a rebuilt Android app with widgets and price alerts.

Share the last few hours of photos with one QR code, now in beta. Guests save them at full quality in any browser, iPhone or Android, with no app or account.

Draw and measure areas and distances on satellite imagery, with an AI assistant that takes map commands in plain English. Used by 38,700+ people so far in 2026, over 270 a day.

An ad-free diff tool for text, code, documents, data and images. Everything is compared in your browser, so nothing gets uploaded.

A fan site for the AMC Eagle, built around my own 1988 Eagle Wagon: specs for every model year, a VIN decoder, and a car-show print kit.

Personalized "watch next" rows in every Plex user's account, picked by a local LLM from titles you already own.
Your turn
Something you keep searching for and only find buried in ads, paywalls or sign-ups? Tell me about it. No promises, but if it's something I'd use too, I might build it, free for everyone.
